The Costa Rica 1/2 Onza 1850 from the Mayer collection: an early die-state issue rather than a specimen.
A particularly nice example of the 1850 Costa Rica 1/2 Onza has been graded as Specimen-61 by one of the major grading services. I feel it has been incorrectly labeled as a Specimen issue (or Proof), and think that it is rather a well preserved example of the original issue struck in 1850 (as opposed to the one struck in 1857-1858 with the same 1850 dies).
